Boy Critically Injured in ATV Accident

Summerfield, Florida — A 10-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was partially ejected from the ATV he was riding in as a passenger.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the off road vehicle was traveling through an open field on private property in the 5000 block of County Rd 42 in Summerfield.

The driver of the vehicle, 11-year-old Tyrone Oneal, was originally traveling in a northbound direction when he made a sharp left turn causing the Polaris Ranger Crew to tilt over on the passenger side tires.

Neither the driver nor passenger was wearing the vehicles seat belts. Martez Hawkins, 10, was partially ejected and was air lifted to UF Health in Gainesville where he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the ATV was not injured.

The 10-year-old boy, Martez Hawkins, who was injured in an ATV accident off of a property located on County Road 42, has been pronounced dead at UF Health Shands in Gainesville.

Hawkins was partially ejected from the Polaris Ranger Crew when the driver made a sharp left turn.

The driver 11-year-old, Tyrone Oneal was not injured in the accident.

Neither child was wearing their seat belt.
