Ocala, Florida – The Florida Highway Patrol is preparing for the funeral of Trooper Chelsea Richard who was killed in the line of duty on Saturday, May 3, 2014.
More than 3,000 people are expected to attend.
The funeral is being held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Ocala.
Certain roadways will be impacted during the funeral procession and traffic may become congested. Traffic will be delayed for a brief time between N.E. 8th Avenue and Baseline Road on S.R. 40, then south on N.E. 25th Avenue to Maricamp Road.
Traffic in and around the First Baptist Church of Ocala will also be impacted.
Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes between 12:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
If traveling in the area during this time frame, motorists need to be aware of slowing and stopped traffic as well as pedestrians.
Law Enforcement is asking that all drivers please avoid the areas indicated on the maps today during the funeral procession.
FIRST PROCESSION TO SERVICES
Beginning at approximately 1:00 PM
- The route will start from the 4900 block of East SR40 and proceed westbound to NE 25th Ave.
- Southbound on 25th Ave. to SE Maricamp Rd.
- Eastbound on SE Maricamp Rd. to SE 30th Ave.
- Northbound on SE 30th Ave. and then into First Baptist Church.
SECOND PROCESSION TO SERVICES
Beginning at approximately 1:15 PM
- The route will leave eastbound from Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. SR40 to NE 25th Ave.
- Southbound on 25th Ave. to SE Maricamp Rd.
- Eastbound on SE Maricamp Rd. to SE 30th Ave. and then into First Baptist Church
PROCESSION FOLLOWING FUNERAL
Beginning between 3:30 and 4:00 PM
- Leave First Baptist Church southbound on SE 30th Ave. to SE Maricamp Rd.
- Westbound on SE Maricamp Rd. to SE 25th Ave.
- Northbound on SE 25th Ave. to East SR40
- Westbound on East SR40 to Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. SR40
Each of these roads will be blocked until the full procession clears it.
