The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm and tornado watch for the following counties:
Brevard, Charlotte, Citrus, Desoto, Hardee, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lake, Lee, Levy, Manatee, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota, Seminole, Sumter, and Volusia.
The tornado watch is in effect until 9 p.m. The thunderstorm warning is in effect until 3:30 p.m.
Some media outlets have reported that the tornado watch expires at 8 p.m., however, the National Weather Service confirmed with Ocala Post that the tornado watch is in fact in effect until 9 p.m.
This thunderstorm will produce lightning and is capable of producing damaging winds of 60 MPH. Be sure to secure any loose yard debris or lawn furniture.
Power outages can be expected.
This storm will be followed by cold temperatures.
